Okay...did some more reading. Some finely tuned critereon was established just a couple of weeks ago regarding this act. I won't bore you with the details but some of the 'goals' for 'meaningful use' are quality measures for tracking medical conditions hand in hand with the ability to capture AND actively report the data through CMS...these goals will become more stringent in time as the years progress. Outcome measures for quality and efficiency improvements will be expected in the years 2013 and 2015 (yeay...more security for longer periods for me!). This is a fantastical change.
Drug reactions, alerts, eRx, all done via the control of using expected 'standards' ( my favorite word)...however, they reduced the expectation of hospitals using CPOE to 10% of orders to be placed via this route? hmmm...glad that is not the area I chose to focus on! However, that is a step back in ensuring patient safety and closed loop practices. Perhaps the expectation was a little to high for those docs to actually place orders via the computer? Hmmm......more reading to do here.
Chow...
